With recent news of Theo Epstein returning to the Red Sox as a senior adviser, it was only a matter of time until Theo’s buddy Eddie Vedder and his band Pearl Jam scheduled a Fenway concert.
Pearl Jam will play a pair of concerts at Fenway Park to close out the summer on Sunday, Sept. 15 and Tuesday, Sept. 17, the final two U.S. dates on the band’s Dark Matter World Tour.
Pearl Jam’s world tour, which kicks off May 4 in Vancouver, coincides with the release of the band’s 12th studio album, “Dark Matter.” The album is the first from the grunge pioneers since 2020’s “Gigaton,” and is produced by Grammy winner Andrew Watt.
In a press release, Vedder hyped “Dark Matter” as the band’s “best work.”
“We’re still looking for ways to communicate,” Vedder said. “We’re at this time in our lives when you could do it or you could not do it, but we still care about putting something out there that is meaningful and we hopefully think is our best work. No hyperbole, I think this is our best work.”
Pearl Jam’s Fenway Park concerts will be accompanied by an opening set from Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard, who along with his solo work is best known as the lead singer of The Frames.
Pearl Jam’s pair of shows will mark the fifth and sixth time Pearl Jam have played at the home of the Red Sox, with the band previously playing two shows each in 2018 and 2016. Vedder has also made numerous appearances at the Hot Stove Cool Music fundraiser, run by Theo Epstein and his brother, Paul.
In an effort to deter scalpers, fans hoping to buy tickets to Pearl Jam’s Boston concerts must register in advance via Ticketmaster by Feb. 18 at 11:59 p.m. The tickets will use “all-in pricing,” meaning none of the typical surprise fees customers have come to expect from Ticketmaster.
