An unoccupied vehicle ran over an older woman as she attempted to help a child who fell off a bike behind her car on Saturday, according to the Bellingham Police Department.
At around 9:20 a.m., Bellingham Police and Fire responded to a house on Plymouth Road for a motor vehicle crash.
Police determined that an older woman had been attempting to back into a driveway when she observed a child fall off a bike and exited the vehicle to check on them. However, when she exited the car, she left it in gear. The unoccupied vehicle rolled back, knocking her down and then partially driving over her.
The car continued rolling into a nearby residence.
Bellingham Fire requested a helicopter to take the woman to a nearby trauma center.
The woman was conscious at the time of transport.
The crash remains under investigation by Bellingham Police and the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Accident Reconstruction Team.
The Milford Daily News reports that the woman was 85 years old, and her condition was still unknown as of Monday morning.
The Bellingham Police Department did not immediately respond to requests for more information.
