There was a paw-some rescue in Cambridge on Thursday as the Cambridge Fire Department and others saved a raccoon from a sewer grate.

The raccoon’s head was stuck inside a storm drain grate, a social media post from the Cambridge Fire Department said. A “team effort” involving Cambridge Animal Control, Public Works, and several other departments, worked together to save the furry friend.

The raccoon was rescued “without harm,” hydrated, and released, the department wrote.

It was truly a community effort; a neighbor who witnessed the rescue attempt gave the team their olive oil to assist in the process, the department said.
